Sheffield Diagnostic Genetics Service (SDGS) is a committed team of over 100 colleagues, delivering core and specialist rare disease and oncology genomics services as part of the North East and Yorkshire Genomic Laboratory Hub (NEY GLH), with partners in Leeds and Newcastle.
From April 2024, SDGS became a focused, 'dry' analysis and reporting department, receiving 'wet' lab work data/results from our partner laboratories.
About You
- GCSE in English and Maths or equivalent are required, and any administration qualifications would be desirable
- Familiarity with MS office or similar and experience of working within an office environment as well as possessing good communication and organisational skills.
- Be comfortable handling specimens and previous experience of this is desirable
- It is essential that that you are a good team member with the confidence to work independently whenever necessary. And possess the ability to handle confidential material in an appropriate manner
Main duties of the job
The administration team is an integral part of Sheffield Diagnostic Genetics Service providing support which is essential to the provision of an excellent service to the department and to our patients.
Various office duties are performed by the team including dealing with the post, telephone calls & emails, data-input and several other tasks.
Specimen reception duties cover approximately 40% of this position. It includes dealing with specimens as per the job description and entering patient data onto data bases used by the departmen
