An opportunity has arisen to join The Paediatric Oncology Outreach Nurse Specialist Teamat Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust.

You will provide support and care for children and young people and their families by delivering high quality and specialist practical and emotional support for children and young people under the care of the Sheffield Principal Treatment Centre for Haematology and Oncology (PCT).

The Paediatric Oncology Outreach Nurse Specialist Team is responsible for the care of children and young people with malignant conditions in hospital and in the community providing patient-centred care in the South Yorkshire North East Lincolnshire area.

About You

  • Registered Children's Nurse with the NMC registration and have substantial recent post registration experience in Paediatric Haematology/Oncology.
  • Current Driving licence
  • You will be required to undertake weekend work and participate in a 24 hour on call rota supporting young people receiving palliative care at home

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Clinical Nurse Specialist Manager, some of your responsibilities will include:

  • You will manage your own case load and be responsible for organising and managing your work on a daily basis, providing specialist nursing expertise as part of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Reviewing patients post chemotherapy in the community
  • Giving support to families, administering medication including chemotherapy and biological therapies, advanced symptom control at end of life, visiting school to support the child's return to education etc.

  • RNC/RN8 degree or diploma level
  • Current NMC registration
  • Relevant post registration qualification as required for speciality
  • 998 or mentorship / supervisor training

Desirable

  • Clinical skills and pathophysiology module (or willingness to undertake depending on role within speciality)
  • Good Clinical Practice GCP certificate
  • Non-Medical Prescribing (depending on role)
