Y&H Surgery in Children Operational Delivery Network: Lead Nurse

The closing date is 02 October 2025

Job summary

Fixed Term: 2 years | 22.5 hrs per week | Home-based with travel

The Yorkshire & Humber Surgery in Children Operational Delivery Network (Y&H SIC ODN) is a collaborative of 14 NHS Trusts working to ensure children receive high-quality surgical care close to home. The Network focuses on improving patient pathways, standardising clinical guidelines, and supporting education across main areas.

We are looking for a senior nurse to join the team, providing expert clinical leadership and independent advice to the Network Manager, Clinical Lead, and member organisations. This role is ideal for experienced nurses with an interest in strategic, cross-organisational working.

About You: You're a Registered Nurse with paediatric/neonatal experience and current NMC registration. You bring substantial post-registration experience, ideally in paediatric surgery, working in a senior nursing role. You're passionate about collaborative working, with leadership, teaching, and communication skills.

A driving licence and flexibility to travel across the region are necessary for this role.

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Network Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide strategic nursing leadership to the ODN executive and clinical forums.

  • Champion family-centred care and promote parent/user engagement.

  • Lead and contribute to educational initiatives across the network.

  • Help develop and implement network-wide strategies and guidelines.

  • Benchmark services and drive continuous improvement aligned with national standards (e.g. GIRFT).

  • Be a visible and expert practitioner in paediatric surgical nursing.

  • Collaborate with other ODNs across Yorkshire & Humber.
