Clinical Nurse Specialist

The closing date is 15 September 2025

Job summary

Permanent | 7.5hrs per week (Fridays)

At Sheffield Children's, we're committed to delivering outstanding, compassionate care for every child and young person. We are looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Complex Care team. You will empower children and their families by ensuring their voices are heard, their care is personalised, and their experience is seamless across services. You'll play an important part in our development as a centre of excellence for complex paediatric care.

Who We're Looking For: You are a registered children's nurse with substantial experience in paediatric complex care. You are passionate about holistic, family-centred care and excel in a collaborative team. Your excellent communication skills, clinical expertise, and ability to work independently make you a trusted leader and advocate for our patients.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Matron, your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide autonomous nursing care to children with complex medical needs across inpatient and community settings.

  • Advocate for children and families, ensuring their needs are central to all care decisions.

  • Develop relationships with families, community teams, and multidisciplinary colleagues to support integrated, high-quality care.

  • Coordinate the specialist service across a range of clinical environments, bridging gaps within the Trust and with external partners.

  • Monitor patient conditions, deliver treatments, and communicate any changes to the wider clinical team.

  • Deliver specialist education, training, and support to families and health professionals.

The job description for this role is currently being reviewed and may be updated. This will not affect the basic criteria required.

About us

At Sheffield Children's, our purpose is clear: to provide healthier futures for children and young people. Our three strategic aims are Outstanding Patient Care, Brilliant Place to Work, and Leaders in Children's Health.

We work with partners across local, regional, and national levels to deliver physical and mental healthcare in both acute and community settings. Many of our clinicians are nationally and internationally recognised for their expertise.

We're proud that 73% of colleagues would recommend Sheffield Children's as a place to work, placing us among the top five NHS trusts in England -- and the top-ranked trust in the North East and Yorkshire -- in the latest NHS Staff Survey.

Our nearly 4,000 colleagues bring our CARE values -- Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence -- to life every day, creating a kind, welcoming environment where patients and families feel safe and supported.

As we approach our 150th anniversary in 2026, we're excited to keep building our leadership in children's health, improve experiences for patients and staff, and focus on our communities and population health.

We also offer excellent benefits to support your wellbeing, with generous annual leave and pension schemes, health and wellbeing programmes, and exclusive discounts -- helping you thrive at work and beyond.
