We are looking for a compassionate and dynamic Consultant to join our general paediatric team at Sheffield Children's, with a special interest in Palliative Care. You will help provide high-quality care for children and young people with both acute and chronic conditions, alongside the provision of paediatric palliative care for those with life-limiting conditions.

About You:

  • CCT in Paediatrics or equivalent (or within 6 months of obtaining).

  • Relevant expertise in palliative medicine

  • CESR applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the time of application.

We offer a supportive environment with a team of over 20 consultants. For candidates unable to meet the full job plan, tailored solutions can be discussed.

This is a great opportunity to help shape the future of paediatric palliative care, supporting 1.5 WTE newly established consultant posts. We expect that Sheffield Children's will apply to become a centre for SPIN and Grid training in Paediatric Palliative Care medicine upon appointment.

Interviews expected to be held Monday 8th September 2025.

Main duties of the job

You will report to the Associate Medical Director, and responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver high-quality general paediatric care, including clinics, acute general paediatrics (including Consultant of the Week rota, rapid access clinics, twilight shifts, weekends, and on-call duties)

  • Provide palliative care for children and young people with life-limiting conditions, working with the regional palliative care network.

  • Support and influence the development of paediatric palliative care services, collaborating with teams across South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw.

About us

At Sheffield Children's, our purpose is clear: to provide healthier futures for children and young people. Our three strategic aims are Outstanding Patient Care, Brilliant Place to Work, and Leaders in Children's Health.

We work with partners across local, regional, and national levels to deliver physical and mental healthcare in both acute and community settings. Many of our clinicians are nationally and internationally recognised for their expertise.

We're proud that 73% of colleagues would recommend Sheffield Children's as a place to work, placing us among the top five NHS trusts in England -- and the top-ranked trust in the North East and Yorkshire -- in the latest NHS Staff Survey.

Our nearly 4,000 colleagues bring our CARE values -- Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence -- to life every day, creating a kind, welcoming environment where patients and families feel safe and supported.

As we approach our 150th anniversary in 2026, we're excited to keep building our leadership in children's health, improve experiences for patients and staff, and focus on our communities and population health.

We also offer excellent benefits to support your wellbeing, with generous annual leave and pension schemes, health and wellbeing programmes, and exclusive discounts -- helping you thrive at work and beyond.
