High Consequence Infectious Disease Nurse Specialist

Join Sheffield Children's as a HCID Nurse Specialist, playing an important role in NHSE's expansion of paediatric HCID services. You will lead the development of education, training, policies, and protocols to prepare our teams to safely care for children with high consequence infectious diseases. Working with infection prevention, infectious diseases, and health & safety teams, you will help ensure safe, compassionate care for children and their families.

About You:

  • Registered Nurse (RSCN or RGN) with current NMC registration

  • IPC qualification with knowledge of HCID management and transmission risks

  • Experience in senior nursing roles with expertise in policy development

  • Experience with developing healthcare training, including simulation and competency assessments

Main duties of the job

You will report to the Lead Nurse (IPC), and your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead development and implementation of HCID-related education, training, and governance policies

  • Collaborate with teams across local, regional, and national levels

  • Deliver evidence-based training and simulation programmes tailored for HCID preparedness

  • Provide pastoral support and communicate complex information to diverse audiences

  • Conduct audits, evaluate training effectiveness, and promote service improvement

  • Maintain knowledge of HCID risks, infection control measures, and emergency response frameworks
