Job summary

Are you looking for a rewarding role in catering and customer service where you can make a difference every day?

We're looking for dedicated Catering Assistants to join our team at Sheffield Children's Hospital. You'll help deliver high-quality catering services to staff, visitors, and patients across our catering outlets.

Current opportunities

Permanent x 1 - 30 hours per week, working evenings

Permanent x 1 - 21 hours per week, working evenings

Permanent x 1 - 20 hours per week, working days

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Catering Manager, you will:

  • Clean and store utensils, equipment, and retail area items
  • Present, and serve basic food and drink items (e.g., sandwiches and salads)
  • Safely dispose of food waste while observing food hygiene standards
  • Monitor and record temperature controls for food and drink storage
  • Replenish and document food and drink stock in retail and vending areas
  • Serve customers, including patients, families, colleagues, and visitors, while providing a welcoming and high-quality service
  • Operate the till, processing and handling payments

  • Level 2 (GCSE or Functional Skills) qualification in Maths and English or equivalent experience
  • Food hygiene certificate or to be completed during induction

Experience

  • Experience of customer service or food preparation in a retail catering environment

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of food hygiene requirements in a catering environment
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures e.g. MRSA, Hand Hygiene, COSHH
  • Able to support families in a compassionate way, using different methods of communication to suit the situation, and know when and where to refer someone to
  • Able to manage different tasks, prioritising workload throughout the day
  • Work effectively as part of a team and coordinate with different team members
  • Computing skills, including the ability to use software relevant to the role e.g. till operation
