An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic, hard-working individuals to join the teams as Housekeepers on Ward 2/Burns and the Emergency Department at Sheffield Children's Hospital.

25 hrs pwWard 2/burns. This is a busy surgical Ward, caring for children between the ages of 0-18 years with a wide range of surgical conditions - 25hrs pw.

15 hrs pw ED.The Emergency department and Acute assessment unit is a busy fast paced environment, caring for children up to 16 years old with acute medical needs and/or injuries. The Housekeeper is vital for the smooth running of the department and will be responsible for supporting the nursing team with non-clinical tasks.

Responsibilities for these posts include maintaining a safe, clean environment in patient and non-patient areas, ensuring monitoring and ordering adequate stock and supplies levels as necessary and co-ordinating the provision of meals, drinks and snacks.

You will need to be flexible during the working week, including some weekends, have excellent communication and organisational skills and be able to work well with all members of the multidisciplinary team to enable everyone to provide excellent care to patients and families

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities for this post include ensuring a high standard of cleanliness in both patient and non-patient areas, ensuring adequate stock levels, monitoring and ordering supplies as necessary. Collecting and delivering pharmacy supplies and collecting patient food/snack boxes, along with providing patients with drinks and snacks as requested.

You should possess excellent communication and organisational skills and be able to work well with all members of the multidisciplinary team to enable everyone to provide excellent care to patients and families.

  • To help maintain a high standard of family centred care by providing a safe and suitable environment and that shortfalls are dealt with quickly and efficiently.
  • To work in partnership with staff and parents to try and adapt the environment in order to meet any diverse and special environmental needs
  • To support in a non clinical way those who provide direct patient care.
  • To co-ordinate services provided by the Estates and Facilities and will work closely with support services departments.
  • To monitor quality standards in the role of Ward Housekeeper, report deficiencies and take appropriate action.
  • To meet specific tasks for individual patient needs as will be determined by the nurse-in charge.
