Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Allergy team at Sheffield Children's Hospital. Applications are invited from candidates with suitable training for the post of locum consultant paediatrician in Allergy. This is a LTFT locum post attracting 6PAs, based at Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust.

This post has become available to support the current paediatric allergy service. The clinical duties will focus on providing secondary allergy services in clinics. As such, there is no immunology, infectious diseases or general paediatric on call commitment with this post. The applicants will join the multi-disciplinary team as key members in developing the service going forward, in order to offer the best possible care to children and their families.

Applications are invited from candidates with training and expertise in paediatric allergy. Applicants should possess, or be within 6 months of receiving their CCT in paediatrics or show evidence of its equivalent if not UK trained.

Main duties of the job

This post will be based at the Children's Hospital. With consultant colleagues, the appointees will provide, maintain and develop the Paediatric Allergy service in the hospital. The appointees will join with colleagues in delivering the current service objectives:-

Undertake out-patient clinics delivering timely diagnosis and management for children with food allergies, atopic asthma, seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis and drug allergies.

Specific Duties will include:

Contribute to the team's agreed service objectives.

Participate in the administrative and managerial activities of the department and when requested, the Trust.

These duties will be covered by other members of the team when the appointees are on leave. The appointees will be expected to provide cover for colleagues during periods of absence. The appointees will have continuing responsibility for the patients in their care and for the safe and effective functioning of the Department.

Qualifications/Training

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCP or MRCPCH or evidence of equivalent qualification
  • Full and specialist registration in Paediatric Allergy (and with a licence to practice) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Paediatrics with sub-speciality training in Allergy (SPIN) or be within 6 months award of CCT by date of interview.
  • Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT in Allergy
