Job summary

We are looking for an energetic, innovative, compassionate, and motivated leader to join the Senior Nursing Team at Sheffield Children's FT as the Associate Director of Nursing (ADN) for Surgery & Critical Care group.

The ADN will act to ensure high quality and effective care for children and young people who use our services is delivered in accordance with our Clinical Strategy and Quality Promise, promoting a culture aligned to our Trust values, thus acting as a role model within the organisation.

The ADN will work collaboratively and productively with the Associate Director and Clinical Director of the Care Group (Care Group Triumvirate) to provide assurance to the Executive Team and the Trust Board that robust systems of governance and excellence in care delivery are in place to enable the delivery of high-quality patient and family led services. This will also provide assurance that those services are meeting agreed objectives and delivered within budget.

The ADN will proactively ensure that the nursing workforce remains appropriate for service demand by supporting the implementation of new workforce models.

The role involves working in partnership with other organisations in the provision and planning of health services, taking forward national and local policies, with drive, passion and enthusiasm to develop a long-term strategic vision that enables high quality and sustainable services.

As ADN you will deputise for the Deputy Chief Nurse as required.

Main duties of the job

This post will provide outstanding professional leadership to nurses and other members of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) within the sphere of responsibility in the Surgery and Critical Care, Care Group and wider Trust. The role is a highly visible one to ensure that nursing makes the fullest contribution to the delivery of a high quality clinical, education and research service within the Care Group.

The ADN will participate in the annual budget setting process, to ensure that workforce plans are in line with financial planning, whilst maintaining workforce levels that deliver safe, high-quality care.You will encourage a philosophy of continuous professional development amongst colleagues, leading by example.

The ADN will facilitate the development of Matron, Ward Manager and Nurse Specialist roles, ensuring that they are empowered and supported as leaders.

Lead the Care Group Governance agenda in ensuring the quality, standard and range of care are optimised within the available resources and in line with the Trust Strategic vision. Ensure there are processes in place to measure and monitor risk and that all incidents are recorded, investigated and that the learning from them is disseminated throughout the Care Group. In conjunction with the Care Group Triumvirate, lead the delivery of service improvement work drawing on knowledge and experience, appraising the options available and taking action to implement and evaluate outcomes. Use improvement methodologies to work with colleagues to implement and evaluate the changes made.
