Job summary
- To provide specialist nursing knowledge within the speciality of Child Development & Neurodisability.
- To develop programmes of care and give advice & support to children and young people with Neurodisability, and their families.
- To provide and develop care packages and give advice & support to children and young people diagnosed with Autism or a Learning Disability and their families
- To assist in the provision of information, education, training and expert advice within the clinical speciality, for patients, families and other health care professionals
- To act as the key contact for children with Autism Learning Disability, and their families, working within a multi-disciplinary team
Main duties of the job
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of Neuro-developmental disorders including complex Autism and Learning Disabilities.
- Provide regular nurse-led follow-up clinics, including school clinics/ support, in line with Trust policy, for children with complex Autism and Learning Disability.
- Co-ordinate and deliver Autism/ Learning disability-specific advice sessions by telephone contact and group work/ workshops, working alongside the Neurodisability psychology service.
- Deliver expert, evidence-based care to children with Autism and Learning disability.
- Provide a comprehensive transition pathway for young people, liaising with all appropriate services to ensure a smooth transition to adult care.
- Provide nursing support to the Consultant-led Neurodisability clinics.
- Administer treatment and medications using agreed Trust protocols and guidelines.
- Be able to carry out delegated investigations following appropriate training.
- Communicate and liaise with multidisciplinary teams in both the hospital and the community and with other agencies such as education, social services and voluntary agencies to promote a seamless service.
