Job summary

A secondment opportunity (6 months) has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Paediatric Nurse to join our well-established Endocrine Team.

You will be part of a large multi-disciplinary team providing specialist care to the children and young people, (and their families), with Endocrine and growth disorders.

The role will include providing disease and drug education, specialist education to other health care professionals, liaising with schools, GP's and community nursing teams as needed.

You will also participate in preparing young people with Endocrine conditions to transition when ready from SC NHS Foundation Trust to adult services.

Essential qualifications:

RSCN/RN Child,

ENB 998 or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification,

Experience in nursing care of children with Endocrinology

Cannulation and phlebotomy skills advantagious

Main duties of the job

  • To act as a Named Nurse and plan, implement and evaluate care for Children undergoing medical day case procedures.
  • To develop and co-ordinate the endocrinology Service in a variety of settings ensuring the quality of care provision for Children of all ages.
  • To provide specialist education, training and information to Children, Families and members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To act as an independent prescriber in areas of competency

Job responsibilities

To act as a Named Nurse and plan, implement and evaluate care for Children undergoing medical and day case procedures

  • Ensure all Children from all age groups and abilities have optimum family-centred, evidence based care.
  • Ensure Parents and Children (when appropriate) have the opportunity to agree and negotiate care.
  • Carry out nursing observations and monitor and record as appropriate using technical equipment as necessary for which training and supervision has been given.
  • Carry out Nurse-Led admission and discharge following agreed day case protocols and policy following training, supervision and assessment.
  • Complete discharge arrangements, communicating with hospital, family and external agencies. Provide Parents and Children with specific information and advice and supplies as appropriate to individual care.
  • Communicate plans of care, changes in condition and treatment to Parents/Carers and members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Manage complex clinical situations responding to the changing needs of the patient.
  • Administer medication according to the Code of Professional Conduct and local policy including oral, subcutaneous, intravenous and topical treatments.
