Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new substantive 9 PA post, to join the existing general paediatrics and dermatology services at Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust.

Applications are invited from candidates with experience in General Paediatrics.

Applicants should possess, or be within 6 months of receiving, a CCST in paediatrics at the time of commencing the appointment and have had appropriate experience within a paediatric unit and specific interest and experience in Paediatric Dermatology.

If the person appointed elects to undertake a maximum part-time contract, he/she will be required to devote substantially the whole of his/her time to the duties of the post and give them priority at all times.

Any Consultant who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with Consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The General Paediatric team provides daily General Paediatric clinics, inpatient acute care, and in-hours Consultant of the Week system with responsibility for all admitted patients, and an out of hours service including on-call.

Day time -A twilight shift from 16.30-22.00 and a "post take" ward for general paediatric acute care. The post take ward round takes responsibility for all acute general paediatric admissions on the wards and in the acute assessment unit.

A consultant of the week for longstanding patients between 9-17.30. The second consultant ward round will review all in patients who have been resident for more than 24 hours, review safeguarding admissions and coordinate care for the long stay complex paediatric in patients.

Out of hours -From 5 pm - 9 am weekdays the general paediatric consultants will provide the on-call rota.

For eight months of the year (over winter) there will two consultants present at weekends between 9 - 13.00 to review the acute admissions and chronic in patients. One of these consultants will remain resident until 22.00 to support acute admissions. They will then be non-resident from 22.00-09.00 the following morning.

Paediatric Dermatology - The post holder will join a medical team of five consultants and two Specialty Doctors who provide the paediatric Dermatology services at Sheffield Children's Hospital.

We see secondary and tertiary level dermatology and receive referrals from the surrounding District General Hospitals.

  • MRCP or MRCPCH or evidence of equivalent qualification
  • Full and Specialist registration (and with a license to practice) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • Completion of a recognized higher training programme in paediatrics with Higher Specialist Training in General Paediatrics
