Job summary

We are looking for experienced Speech & Language Therapists to join our Mainstream Paediatric Service. We have the equivalent of 3 term time only posts available, and would consider applicants wanting to work 3 to 5 days a week.

The posts cover "bought in contracts" across primary schools in Sheffield, with some secondary sessions also available. Each post includes an afternoon a week supervision, meetings and CPD needs. Caseloads within the schools are large and complex, and include children with DLD, autism, complex needs, language and phonology disorders. A good understanding of working within a culturally diverse demographic will also be required.

You will work alongside school staff, particularly the school leadership teams, to identify school priorities, and may be required to work at universal, targeted and specialist levels (Wave 1, 2 and 3). Candidates applying will therefore need to demonstrate well-developed collaborative working practices and the ability to work flexibly and problem-solve at a high level.

All sessions sit within the mainstream school's team where you are able to access support from clinical leads in a range of specialisms. You will work in collaboration with the therapist providing NHS funded input for the school.

Applicants will be registered with the HPC and Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists (UK). Due to the nature of the post, applicants must have access to their own transport.

Main duties of the job

  • To work in partnership with schools to identify and prioritise their needs, including those at wave 1 and wave 2 (universal and targeted provision)
  • To assess and evaluate children referred to speech and language therapy, and their communication context.
  • To develop appropriate communication targets, and mentor staff and parents in skill building and the development of nurturing language learning environments.
  • To provide information and advice to others regarding the management and care of clients with communication difficulties.
  • To manage and prioritise own caseload
  • To write reports reflecting specialist knowledge, including contributions to EHCPs.
  • To participate in the development and delivery of training packages.
