Clinical Nurse Specialist - Sepsis

Job summary

We are looking to recruit an experienced and skilled nurse for a period of 9 months for 11.5 hours per week to lead on delivering our sepsis awareness programme.

Working collaboratively with key stakeholders you will be key in driving qualitative, innovative, productive, and safe evidence-based practice which seeks to deliver and optimise outcomes for children, young people and their families. You will also be a clinical expert and resource for all members of the multi-disciplinary team.

You will actively participate in the development and improvement of Sepsis care to maximise quality of patient care in collaboration with all health care professionals.

The role involves developing Trust policy to ensure practice meets internal and external healthcare standards as required.

You will maintain a high and visible profile in the clinical environment and act as a role model demonstrating high standards of care.

Main duties of the job

  • To support the corporate delivery of the Sepsis key performance indicators.
  • To drive qualitative, innovative, productive, and safe evidence-based nursing care which promotes best practice and best outcomes for patients and will act as a clinical expert and resource for members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To be the specialist resource in relation to the management of sepsis, providing ward staff with the appropriate knowledge and information to support their patients.
  • To actively participate in the development and improvement of Sepsis care to maximise quality of patient care in collaboration with all health care professionals.
  • Assist in developing Trust policy to ensure practice meets internal and external healthcare standards as required.
  • Support clinical areas to further identify local sepsis champions to improve the education and compliance with utilising the sepsis tools across the Trust.
  • Work collaboratively from a clinical and education perspective as part of the whole deteriorating patient agenda
  • To maintain a high and visible profile in the clinical environment and act as a role model demonstrating high standards of care.

  • Provide and receive highly complex or sensitive information where there are barriers to understanding.
  • Empower the patients, by providing appropriate and effective support to enrich family life.

  • Persuade patients and families to co-operate with treatment for their well-being, effectively deal with anxious relatives.
  • Ensure parents/carers and the child (when appropriate), have the opportunity to agree and/or negotiate care.
  • Communicate and liaise with other departments/ wards in the hospital to provide support and advice on resource management and professional nursing issues (524 bleep holder).
  • Work closely with consultants and ward areas to ensure smooth pathways of care
