Job summary

Applications are invited for a Twelve Month Paediatric Trauma and Orthopaedics Fellowship at Sheffield Children's Hospital, and the Ryegate Child Development Centre, commencing as soon as possible.

Experience can be gained in a wide range of Paediatric Orthopaedics with the exception of malignant bone tumours. You will receive training in the management of Paediatric Orthopedic conditions in general and the department prides itself in well-developed sub specialties in all areas. The department has well established ultrasound screening in DDH, the Ponseti management of clubfeet, the treatment of neuromuscular disorders with gait analysis , limb reconstruction, skeletal dysplasia, young adult hip preservation and soft tissue knee reconstructive surgery.

There is a well-established hub and spoke service with our regional general hospitals and is well known for tertiary referrals from UK and abroad. There are specialised MDT clinics those of Spasticity and neuromuscular, Spina bifida, Sports injuries, Metabolic bone disease (OI), Achondroplasia, Skeletal Dysplasias , Upper limb and limb deficiency managed with appropriate medical and surgical disciplines with input from allied health professionals.

Main duties of the job

The post is whole time with 40 standard hours per week and attracting Pay Banding 1B/1C reflecting a 1 in 10 on-call rota with prospective cover. Salary is on the MN37 scale.

Audit and research is actively encouraged and there is opportunity and time for involvement in these activities.

On call is 1 in 10 shared with Specialist Registrars on the North Trent Orthopaedic Rotation, and other Fellows. Candidates are expected to have completed their Higher Surgical Training, and be in possession of their CCT or equivalent.

Candidates should have the ability to communicate fluently in English for example to have passed the IELTS English proficiency examination or equivalent and should be registered with the General Medical Council or eligible for sponsorship and registration. Applications are welcomed from EC and non EC candidates and trainees from the armed forces.

An IELTS total score of 7.5 minimum is needed with each subsection having a score of 7.0 to 9.0 such that your average is total 7.5 or above, to qualify for GMC registration and to apply for this fellowship. Any subsection score less than 7.0 is considered a failure and also a total score of less than 7.5, also is a failure. You will be asked to send in your scores at the time of application.
