An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Community Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy Teamat Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust.

You will be a key member of the multidisciplinary sensory service, who provide care to children and young people with sensory processing differences. The team is experienced, supportive, compassionate and forward thinking, and you will gain a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience through working with them.
You should have a passion for working with autistic children and young people and experience of sensory processing differences.
Main duties of the job
- To provide a highly specialised service that includes assessment, advice and management of children and adolescents with a range of sensory processing difficulties.
- To act as a source of expertise and demonstrate advanced knowledge and experience in the highly skilled management of children with sensory processing difficulties which affect their functional abilities and activities of daily living.
- To provide specialist advice to other inter-agency professional staff and to provide clinical education and training to others including therapists, support staff and students.
- To take a lead role in the management of more difficult and complex cases within a multi-disciplinary team approach acting as an autonomous practitioner.
- To work in the community setting frequently as a lone practitioner in line with the Trusts lone worker policy.

CLINICAL
- To demonstrate highly skilled, evidenced based knowledge, understanding and ability in applying theory to practice and being professionally and legally accountable for that practice.
- To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the children under your management at all times and support more junior staff to do likewise.
- To use clinical reasoning skills in developing individual care plans that may include a treatment programme of highly specialised therapeutic intervention as well as education and advice to parents, carers, teaching staff, multi-disciplinary and multi-agency professionals.
- To assess the child/parents/carers/teachers understanding of the assessment and treatment proposals, gaining valid informed consent and have the knowledge to work within a legal framework with children who lack the capacity to consent to treatment.
- To undertake the comprehensive assessment of children including those with a severe and complex presentation of sensory processing difficulties, using investigative and analytical skills to formulate individualised management and treatment plans.
- To accept clinical and managerial responsibility for a designated caseload of children and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities, available resources and use of time.
- To interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical information to form accurate diagnoses and prognoses in a wide range of highly complex conditions.
- To demonstrate highly developed dexterity, co-ordination and palpatory senses for assessment and manual treatment of children.
- To use advanced judgement and analytical skills in recommending the best course of intervention, taking into account the wide range of treatment options and modalities available.
- To formulate, evaluate and progress specialised treatment programmes and recommend the best course of intervention for the children, setting realistic goals jointly agreed with all parties concerned.
- To evaluate the childs progress, reassess and alter treatment as required, monitoring treatment using sound measurement and validated outcomes measures.
- To appreciate how different religious beliefs, cultures, emotions, and changing social circumstances can affect models of intervention.
- To be proficient in the use of a range of verbal and non-verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with children / parents/carers/teachers/support assistants.
- To posses highly developed communication and interpersonal skills required to ensure the delivery of effective care, taking into account the complexity and variety of difficulties presented e.g. age, physical, emotional, cultural, cognitive, social and behavioural.
- To effectively communicate, negotiate and explain the assessment findings and treatment plans in a non-judgmental and considered manner to children / parents / carers and other agencies e.g. GPs, Consultants, social care and education services which may occasionally include issues regarding child protection.
- To be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient records in line with professional (RCOT) and Trust standards and be responsible for monitoring staff in lower grades to meet these standards.
- To provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to relatives, carers and other professionals to promote understanding of the aims of occupational therapy and to ensure a consistent approach to patient care.
- To continuously assess clinical and non-clinical risk while acting as an autonomous and lone practitioner in variety of community settings / environments.
- To work with other therapists and agencies to ensure the safe physical management / handling of children. This will include the use of risk assessments, highly developed manual handling techniques and knowledge of the safe and competent use of specialist equipment.
- To utilise available information technology and communication systems within area of work to maximise service delivery.
- To provide accurate written reports to other agencies including Education Health Care Plans, child protection reports and social care and health care assessments as required.
