Applications are invited for the following non-resident fellowship based at Sheffield Children's Hospital and Chesterfield Royal Hospital, commencing Wednesday October 2nd 2024 for 12 months.
This combined fellowship will allow the successful candidate to gain complete experience and the technical skills needed to practice successfully in the field of Paediatric and Adult Soft Tissue Knee pathology.
This is currently the only Fellowship of its kind in the UK and will be unrivalled in the ability to deliver high level training within this expanding field of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine.
Experience will be gained in the full spectrum of paediatric and adolescent soft tissue knee pathology with the exception of malignant bone tumours. Specifically, training will be offered in the management and treatment of conditions affecting the growing knee which spans patients in the paediatric and adolescent age groups. An emphasis will be placed on arthroscopic surgery with the full range of advanced arthroscopic procedures. In addition, experience will be gained in complex pathology such as congenital ligament deficiency and severe patellofemoral disease. The Fellowship will be under the direction of Mr. Nick Nicolaou, Mr. Fazal Ali and Mr. Paul Haslam.
Main duties of the job
In addition, there will be training in the management of paediatric orthopaedic conditions in general with specific emphasis on knee trauma. Training in deformity planning and correction associated with knee pathology will be an essential component of learning, and the use of gait analysis to aid in decision making.
At Chesterfield Royal Hospital further experience will be gained in knee surgery on the adult patient with regards to all the soft tissue knee procedures and also exposure to arthroplasty and osteotomies around the knee.
Research involvement will be an integral part of the duties of the appointed fellow with expectation to produce at least 1 peer reviewed article and an audit within the remit of the post.
There is no on call commitment with this post. It is suitable for Specialist Registrars nearing, or having completed their training, post CCT candidates and other appropriate applicants with comparative experience.
It is anticipated that applicants will demonstrate a desire to continue their practice in the orthopaedic sub-speciality relevant to the Fellowship.
About us
Where appropriate, candidates need to have passed the IELTS English proficiency examination. Registration with the General Medical Council is essential. The post is equally open to EC and non-EC candidates; trainees from the armed forces are welcome to apply.
CONTRACTED HOURS
The post is whole time with 40 standard hours per week.
