Job summary
We're seeking an experienced and motivated midwife to lead in the placement facilitation and pastoral support of student midwives who work clinically at Airedale. This role provides daily support and guidance to students as they fulfil the clinical requirements of the NMC, on either the direct entry or shortened course pathway.
The post holder will liaise with area managers and their teams to ensure there is adequate provision of staff to meet the learning needs of students at various levels of training. Collaborating with other areas of the hospital to identify potential placement opportunities and working alongside the universities to maintain a professional and consistent working relationship which ultimately aims to support students in providing safe patient care as they navigate their training.
The post holder will work alongside the university in providing up to date information to the wider maternity team at Airedale, on current local and national projects which affect the students.
The postholder will also act as the Preceptorship Lead Midwife supporting newly qualified and return to practice Midwives for their duration of their preceptorship, continually reviewing the preceptorship offer.
The post holder will look for innovative ways to enhance student experience such as. Providing induction workbooks for maternity areas, carrying out and facilitating workshops, meeting with each cohort regularly to gather feedback and keep informed of current issues and successes.
Main duties of the job
The Maternity PEF will work collaboratively with the Local Maternity & Neonatal Services(LMNS) and regional Maternity PEF forums, as well as AEI organised groups, to acquire and maintain specialist knowledge linked to best practice and consistency across the region for Trusts and students.
Work autonomously to manage own workload and workstreams associated with the role, using discretion and specialist professional knowledge, skills and judgement to prioritise and progress appropriately, utilising guidance from peers and/or external reference points where necessary.
Using expert specialist knowledge along with research and information gathered from the results of audits on educational opportunities, the PEF will analyse data to identify and interpret trends and areas for improvement, working collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure desired outcomes.
Lead change and respond in providing support, and educational contribution, to the development of activities for students within pre-registration healthcare professional programmes, and the staff supporting them. This specialist role aims to enhance the quality of the practice placement experience and positively contribute to the future
