Job summary
Working in conjunction and under the guidance and direction of the Senior CNS for Haematology/Oncology for the Trust, the service Matron and the Haematology Team to provide a high-quality expert nursing service for patients diagnosed with Non-Malignant Haematological conditions, ensuring the delivery of evidence based practice, better outcomes for patients and the development of services within the Trust.
Core components of the nursing role include ensuring best practice in infection prevention providing a safe environment for care and ensuring that patients are treated with dignity and respect.
The post holder is required to create an environment where patients are empowered and enable to make informed decisions about their choice of care.
Main duties of the job
? The post holder will have responsibility under direction from the Non - malignant CNS for a defined caseload, including the setting of standards of care and assessment of care needs.
? The post holder will provide with training nursing expertise for inpatients and outpatients with non-malignant haematological disorders
? Contribute and participate in the development of the service.
? With support attend and participate in meetings/case discussions as required, providing timely and appropriate communication and dissemination of information.
? Monitor effective nursing documentation kept on all nursing activities. Ensure safe custody of medical/nursing records and reports.
? Participate in ensuring that systems are in place for risk assessment and minimisation, promoting a 'fair blame' culture in order to report near misses and incidents.
? Communicate directly with department leaders with ideas to improve nursing practice and pathways
? Notify the Senior CNS for Haematology if clinical standards are not met.
? With training support patients using iron collation therapy and monitor iron overload and its associated complications.
? Provide telephone follow up, advice and support for patients and carers

- Level 1 Registered Nurse (Adult branch) on part 1 of the live NMC Register
- Significant post registration experience, of which must have been at Band 6 level
- Hold a qualification in nursing
