Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (Band 6)

Job summary

We have a great opportunity for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist with an interest and experience in Head and Neck Cancer to join our Head and Neck Cancer team. This small team is part of the Adult Speech and Language Service and is based at Airedale Hospital but works in partnership with the Bradford as part of the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Cancer Alliance.

The post-holder will be adopted as a MacMillan professional and will therefore enjoy the additional benefits that this brings.

This position is not currently eligible for a certificate of sponsorship in line with Home Office guidance as it does not appear on the skilled worker visa occupation list.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a dysphagia trained Speech and Language Therapist with a passion for providing patient-centred care in our Head and Neck Cancer service Adult SALT service which is based at Airedale General Hospital and in the community.

The post-holder would be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team across Bradford and Airedale, which includes clinics at Airedale General Hospital and at St Lukes, Bradford. The role also includes a weekly AHP outpatient clinic, individual outpatient clinics and community visits.

You would be working closely with our Band 4 SLTA to deliver patient-centred therapy assessments and intervention.

  • Degree or equivalent pre-registration award in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • State registrations with the Health Care Professions Council.
  • Recent post graduate courses relevant to Head and Neck SALT
  • Post graduate training and competence in dysphagia
  • Completion of course in Professional Practice Education.

Desirable

  • Successful completion of a professionally validated specialist course.
  • MSc modules in a relevant area of practice.
  • Completion of leadership courses
  • ECDL or formal qualifications in word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Member of relevant professional special interest groups/organisations.
  • At least 6 months experience of independently assessing and managing swallowing difficulties.
