Generic Therapy Assistant - Orthopaedics (Band 3)

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Generic Therapy assistants to come and work alongside the Orthopaedic therapy teams based at Airedale General Hospital within the acute therapy service.

The post holder will be required to support and assist the Physiotherapists and Occupational therapists in the team in the assessment, planning and implementation of a range of therapeutic activities and treatments.

The successful applicant will work across both trauma and elective surgical wards. The post holder with alsodeliver therapy information to pre-operative elective patients at the Joint replacement education group and have a defined role in the assessment and treatment of patients on the elective ward.

The post has been designed to introduce a broader generic therapy input across the service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Manage a caseload delegated by clinicians
  • Independently undertake basic assessments and interventions relevant to delegated caseload
  • Contribute to the evaluation of programmes and patient's progression making minor alterations in consultation with the therapists.
  • Support therapists with complex cases as required
  • Work with colleagues to ensure the effective functioning of the team
  • Work in partnership with patients, carers, the multi disciplinary team and wider statutory, private and voluntary sector services.
  • Participate in activities to improve the Orthopaedic services.
  • Provide support to other team members and students
  • Work flexibly according to patient and service needs

In pursuing these duties the post holder will ensure compliance with the NHS Constitution and the Trust's Right Care strategy.

  • Relevant BTEC, QCF or equivalent Level III qualification in health and social care or equivalent.

  • Courses relevant to job eg Equipment, Dementia

  • Recent, relevant experience of working in acute, mental health or other clinical support worker roles
  • Experience of working with people with complex health needs
