Job summary
The Executive Medical Director will take lead responsibility for the professional leadership of all medical staff, pharmacists and clinical scientists (as part of the Joint Venture in Pathology) across the Trust as well as to the Research team, to ensure high quality and compassionate care is provided to our patients and service users.
This is a critical role that will embed clinical leadership across the Trust to develop a culture that centres on patient safety, learning, improvement and innovation in line with our vision set out in the Trust Strategy; Thriving People, Healthy Communities. The Executive Medical Director will have a key role in the development and delivery of the Trust's supporting strategies, notably the Clinical Strategy and the Quality & Safety strategy.
Main duties of the job
As a member of the Trust Board you will work as part of the Director team and report into the Trust's Chief Executive, taking responsibility as a corporate Director. You will work particularly closely with the Executive Director of Nursing to ensure that patient safety and the delivery of high quality care remain central to the Trust's strategic direction and decision making. You will also lead on specific aspects of the Trust's Quality and Governance arrangements.
As the senior medical professional in the Trust, you will lead on the development of the clinical strategy and its underpinning medical workforce strategy. You will be the guardian of medical performance and professional standards, ensuring that robust systems are in place for the revalidation of doctors and in the provision of quality undergraduate and postgraduate Medical Education.
