Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Lead Nurse Infection Prevention to join our dedicated Infection Prevention Team to deliver specialist advice, education and services within Airedale NHS Hospital Foundation Trust.

You should be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to engage and motivate others, have appropriate clinical, managerial experience and be computer literate. You must also possess excellent organisational skills and be able to demonstrate that you can work autonomously and as part of a team, be a quick thinker, problem solver and demonstrate proven and effective leadership skills.

As Lead Nurse Infection Prevention, you will be responsible daily for the operational delivery of a complex infection prevention programme within the Trust. You must be able to consistently promote principles of good infection prevention and control in practice, even in times of severe operational and clinical pressures.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will manage the Infection Prevention Team (IPT), provide clear and visible leadership for infection prevention and control within Airedale NHS Foundation Trust (ANHSFT) and other purchasers of the service e.g. Eccleshill Diagnostic Centre and Manorlands Hospice to contain and reduce healthcare associated infections through risk assessment, surveillance, audit, education, polices, guidelines and post infection reviews.

The post holder is responsible for the delivery of evidence-based clinical standards, ensuring high quality care, and providing effective leadership and management in relation to infection prevention and control and infection prevention and control in the built environment.

The post holder is professionally accountable to the Chief Nurse and DIPC and will work closely with the IPT, Divisional Groups, Multidisciplinary Teams, corporate staff and Airedale General Hospitals Solutions (AGHS) in order to deliver and develop high quality, safe infection prevention and control practice. Under the leadership of the Chief Nurse and DIPC, the post holder will contribute to the delivery of key national targets for the prevention and control of healthcare associated infections (HCAIs) in accordance with the Trust's performance management framework.

Expert Practice

With regard to infection prevention and control, the post holder will work in collaboration with internal and external teams exercising effective leadership in order to ensure:

  • Delivery of high quality care, providing expert practice and leadership so that specific needs of the patient cohort are addressed

Nurse leadership
