Job summary
The Critical Care Outreach Team (CCOT) offers intensive care skills to patients with, or at risk of, critical illness in areas outside of the critical care unit. We provide a 24 hour, 7 day a week service reviewing patients throughout the hospital.
The team consists of Band 6 nurses with a band 7 team leader and clinical supervision provided by the Clinical Lead consultant for CCOT.
We respond to all patients reaching trigger thresholds for NEWS2 scoring in line with national guidance, attend cardiac arrests and medical emergencies as part of the arrest team, and review all patients stepped down from ICU/HDU.
Our goal is to improve patient outcomes through early recognition and response to deterioration, reduce length of stay, avoid adverse events such as cardiac arrest, and prevent admission / readmission to critical care.
Main duties of the job
As part of the CCOT you will be responsible for providing high quality nursing support and care to all acutely unwell adult patients within Airedale Hospital.
You will:o Work in collaboration with medical and allied health professionals to provide safe, equitable andhight quality care for all acutely unwell, critically ill and recovering patients on a 24-hour shiftbasis across the Trust.o Review all patients stepped down from the ICU/HDU in a timely fashion to ensure they areprogressing and prevent readmissiono Undertake advanced clinical skills following appropriate training such as arterial blood gassampling, ECG, IV drug administration via CVAD etc,o Attend adult cardiac arrest and medical emergency calls, utilising ALS skills appropriatelyo Provide support with NIV and High Flow oxygen therapyo Recognise and respond appropriately to incidences of sepsis in line with national guidanceo Participate in the delivery of local training courses
