Job summary
The candidate will be an enthusiastic HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist with substantial senior managerial experience and FIBMS (or equivalent, e.g., MSc). The candidate will also hold a suitable post-graduate management qualification or be able to demonstrate significant knowledge and experience in a post 8a or above
The successful candidate will manage and work closely with the Cross-site Microbiology service lead and liaise with the Microbiology Clinical Director, working together in triumvirate to deliver a safe and high-quality service. They will report to the IPS Director of Operations, through whom they will provide service assurance to the IPS Medical Director and Managing Director. They will also be the site lead for the Airedale laboratory, working closely with ANHSFT colleagues in providing a high-quality pathology service.
Demonstrable experience of managing staff and pathology services is essential. Ideally candidates will be emotionally intelligent, self-aware, resilient and have a compassionate leadership style. This role will require encouraging development of the full team through managerial training and strategy development, working alongside the other General Managers in delivering this.
Candidates will need to have a 'can-do' attitude, be enthusiastic, well-motivated and innovative, with good organisational abilities. This should be supported by well-developed interpersonal , communication skills and an ability to support individual and team working.
Main duties of the job
o To be the Pathology General Manager for the Airedale site and Microbiology, working closely with key stakeholders, including senior clinical and managerial contacts to deliver pathology services that fulfil the needs of the Trust.o To be a key member of the IPS LLP senior leadership team, shaping the strategic and operational delivery of pathology services.o To be a visible and inspirational leader and the main contact for Trust pathology services on the Airedale site.o To represent pathology-interests at relevant Trust meetings and forums, including Trust Command and Control meetings, when required.o To work as part of a triumvirate leadership team with the Cross-site Lead and Clinical Director to manage, organise and deliver multi-site Microbiology service ensuring a cohesive pathology department that works to harmonised procedures.o To lead and be responsible for all Health and Safety matters within IPS, liaising with H&S representatives on all sites to ensure a safe work place.o To work closely with key external stakeholders including, but not limited to, CCG, WY&H Pathology Network, ICS, NHSE/I colleagues in delivering an ever more progressive pathology service that meets the requirements of its users.o To deputise for other Pathology General Managers and for the Director of Operations, as and when required.

IPS is a joint venture providing a high-quality pathology service to Airedale NHS Foundation Trust (ANHSFT), Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BTHFT) and Harrogate District NHS Foundation Trust (HDFT).
It an exciting time to join IPS where a management restructure has recently completed with the aim to drive greater integration.
