As the Health and Safety Manager at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust you will lead on all health and safety management providing assurance to the Board of compliance with its Health and Safety statutory duties.
The job is about building great working relationships and positive health and safety cultures with managers and staff right across our diverse organisation - working with them on issue resolution and advising and guiding them on how to work more efficiently.
You'll help them balance the requirements of the organisation with best practice by developing and implemented practical, cost effective health and safety systems and solutions, and encouraging behaviours that minimise risk. A persuasive communicator, you'll need high levels of enthusiasm combined with good planning, project management and people skills.
The right candidate will have extensive experience of working in the field of health, safety and risk management whilst also being able to demonstrate excellent people management skills. Experience of managing a team is essential.
Main duties of the job
Job Purpose
- To be the Trust's Health and Safety Competent Person in all matters of health and safety.
- On behalf of the Chief Operating Officer, to lead and develop the Trust's strategic approach to its statutory obligations under current Health & Safety legislation, associated legislation and in accordance with NHS governance criteria as the subject matter expert.
- Provide health and safety advice, guidance, support and monitoring to all Trust staff located across Trust sites. To oversee the role of Trust Local Security Management Specialist (or equivalent)
In pursuing these duties the post holder will ensure compliance with the NHS Constitution

- Registered Safety Practitioner References.
- Member of IOSH (preferably CMIOSH) or evidence of working towards
Experience

- Significant experience of working at a senior level within the health and safety arena, preferably in the healthcare sector Accustomed to supporting the risk assessment process and investigation of incidents
- Proven change management experience
- Experience of engaging and working with teams successfully to improve processes and care provided to patients.
Desirable
- Experience of driving health and safety initiatives at senior level through a large organisation
- Ability to assess, review and implement policy to ensure the highest level of practice is achieved
