Job summary

We are looking for enthusiastic occupational therapists to join our band 5 development scheme.

This innovative scheme is a partnership between Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and Bradford District Care Foundation Trust. It provides opportunities to develop clinical knowledge and skills in a wide variety of settings in both physical and mental health services for the benefit of service users in the Airedale and Bradford districts. The clinical areas include;

Inpatient physical services - Orthopaedics, medical and stroke

In patient mental health services

Community rehabilitation team

Intermediate care team

Community mental health teams for adults and older people

Forensic services

Learning disabilities

Children's services - Child Development Centre and CAMHS

Posts on the scheme are full time to ensure graduates are able to achieve the competencies for each clinical area prior to rotating. Post holders will experience working in both organisations, contribute to negotiating their rotations based on individual and service delivery needs and make a positive contribution to service developments.

Main duties of the job

The band 5 development scheme is a partnership between Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and Bradford District Care Foundation Trust and provides secondments to a variety of physical and mental health teams in the Airedale and Bradford localities. Posts on the scheme are full time to ensure graduates are able to achieve the competencies for each clinical area prior to rotating and to support individual and service development. The clinical specialities included on the scheme are;

  • Inpatient physical services - Orthopaedics, medical and stroke
  • In patient mental health services
  • Community rehabilitation team
  • Intermediate care team
  • Community mental health teams for working age adults and older people
  • Forensic services
  • Learning disabilities
  • Children's services - Child Development Centre and CAMHS

Services generally operate week days between the hours of 8.30 and 4.30 but in some teams there is a need to work more flexible hours which includes evening, weekends and bank holidays

  • Prioritise, plan and deliver clinical case work with support and supervision of a senior therapist.
  • Apply evidence based, knowledge and skills
  • Work in partnership with patients, carers, the MDT, and wider statutory, private and voluntary sector services.
  • Work with team members to ensure the effective functioning of the team
  • Participate in quality improvements
  • Contribute to student training and development

  • Reflect on complex facts gathered or situations presented and use analysis and judgment skills to consider options for interventions, and outcomes.

  • Collaborate with the MDT to develop and improve patient pathways.
  • Respond to unforeseen situations that take precedence over planned work.
  • Provide advice, teaching and instruction for relatives, carers, and other health professionals to promote understanding of the aims of occupational therapy and to ensure a consistent approach to patient care.

  • Degree or equivalent pre-registration award in occupational therapy
