Job summary
The post holder will provide a safe, efficient, and effective service to patients and Consultant users. They will provide leadership and direction to the operating theatre team. The role includes clinical practice, human resource management, including staffing and performance management and financial management. The post holder will act as first assistant to the surgeon when required.
Main duties of the job
This role is responsible for ensuring appropriate staffing levels and skill mix to reflect the changing workload and to meet the needs of the patient in the perioperative environment. Responsible for co-ordinating all clinical activity to maximise efficiency. The role will also be required to provide clinical leadership to all theatre staff and deputise for the Clinical Theatre Manager in their absence. In addition, the post holder will:
Assist the Clinical Theatre Manager in achieving performance targets.
Work collaboratively with other team leaders in the theatre department in the daily running and organisation of theatre activity and provide support in all clinical areas as necessary.
Work as part of the senior staff team to meet the department objectives and develop the work of the theatre service.
The post holder will be expected to work predominantly Monday to Friday but in exceptional circumstances and with negotiation work weekends.
Maintain the health and safety and wellbeing of patients, their relatives, visitors, and colleagues, in accordance with the hospital's Health & Safety Policies.
Ensure that all new contracted, bank or agency staff receive a departmental induction
To support the clinical theatre managers in the delivery of their portfolios acting as an effective role model, providing excellent quality of care for patients and to be an expert resource and knowledge base for colleagues.

- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
- Advanced clinical knowledge e.g. Surgical First Assistant Training, Post Graduate Certificate

- Accredited Teaching Certificate or equivalent experience
- Evidence of completion of surgical first assistant training
- Evidence of other Peri-Operative study (AAGBI recognised).
- Sick childrens nursing / practice
