Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic innovative Infection Prevention and Control Team. The post holder will ideally have experience in IPC but this is not essential as the post can be developmental and training provided. The successful candidate will work with the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Team Lead and other Team members to enhance support to the wards and departmental-based clinical services throughout the hospital.
At Harrogate District Hospital, we provide a high-quality IPC service to patients, staff and visitors preventing and controlling healthcare associated infection.
The role will include participation in the prevention, surveillance, investigation and control of infection within the hospital setting, as well as implementation of policy and education of staff. It requires a high level of cooperative working and information exchange with ward and departmental-based colleagues, Community IPC teams as well as the development of systems and processes to support organisational objectives.
Main duties of the job
Contribute advisory and clinical input to facilitate quality infection prevention and control care for patients
Provide clinical advice, leadership, support for patients, relatives and the general public on hospital infection prevention and control issues
Provide advice on infection prevention and control activities including isolation, with participation in their introduction and practice
Recognise, investigate and implement the necessary action to resolve HCAI issues
Investigate outbreaks of hospital infection, with particular reference to their source and mode of spread
Identify potential infection hazards for patients, staff, equipment or procedures
Assist staff with the interpretation of laboratory reports relevant to the control of infection and relating relevant clinical information to the laboratory staff
Undertake IPC audits of clinical areas as per the audit programme.
Collect relevant clinical data for use by the Infection Prevention and Control Department
Advise personnel on infection control and decontamination issues regarding the provision of safe equipment for patient care
Participate in the Hospital IPC on call rota providing urgent telephone IPC advice on a weekend / Bank Holidays.
