Job summary

As Associate Director of Nursing for Planned and Surgical Care here at Harrogate and District Foundation Trust you will be working as a triumvirate with the Operational Director (OD) and Clinical Director (CD), the leadership of the Directorate involves partnership working and shared responsibility between the OD, CD and ADoN.

The Associate Director of Nursing will lead and develop nursing teams within the Directorate groups, within the accountability and organisational structure. They will have a pivotal role in the provision of compassionate leadership across the organisation and will act as a role model at all times, reflecting Trust values and behaviours.

The post holder will have responsibility for setting, maintaining and monitoring standards of nursing care within the Directorate. They will work with the Directorate senior leadership team to ensure delivery of the Trust strategic aims and objectives, as set out in the Trust Strategy and True North Ambitions.

The post holder will be accountable for providing professional leadership, guidance, advice and support to nurses within the Directorate group and to members of the multi -disciplinary team. The post holder will maintain professional standards of behaviour across the Directorate.

As part of the Directorate senior leadership team the Associate Director of Nursing will work collaboratively with the Directorate Triumvirate to establish effective systems of governance and performance management.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide outstanding nursing leadership across the Directorate, working with the Executive Director of NMAHPs and other senior nursing, midwifery and AHP leaders to ensure delivery of high quality care and a positive patient experience across all aspects of the organisation. Lead and manage the matrons and other non-medical clinical leads across the Directorates.
  • As part of the Directorate Triumvirate to provide expert advice and guidance on nursing and quality related matters.
  • To lead and develop a safe, skilled and competent workforce working in collaboration with the Directorate operational and nursing teams, ensuring the implementation of an effective plan for continuing professional development working with the corporate senior leadership team to ensure robust governance.
  • Support the Deputy Director of NMAHPs on the delivery of a comprehensive nursing education programme that supports ongoing learning and professional development within the financial framework and demonstrates an innovative approach that recognises different ways of learning. Ensure that services are compliant with specialty standards regarding training and education.
  • Support the Deputy Director of NMAHPs to ensure development of clinical practice, ensuring a just and learning culture, promoting professional curiosity and creating a positive learning environment.
