This role is an exciting opportunity to undertake a project based within the Corporate Nursing team to scope out the current extent of advance practice across all staff groups in HDFT, mapping against the WYAAT Framework and the requirements from the national Centre for Advancing Practice. This 8B role is funded for 15hours/ week until the end of March 2026 and is open to all NMC / HCPC registrants working at an advanced practice level.
The lead Advanced Practitioner will be responsible for the Trust wide development and leadership of Advanced Practitioners (AP). They will support the trust's executive director of NMAHPs in developing, leading and implementing a multi professional, organisational advanced practice strategy and will provide highly specialised, expert advice, education, consultancy and clinical expertise.
They will play a key role in the strategic development and evaluation of advanced practice across HDFT. The post holder will work alongside the trust senior leadership team to guide and support in transformation of the workforce, developing an AP workforce to meet the trust Clinical Services Strategy and objectives of the NHS Long Term Plan.
Main duties of the job
- On behalf of the Executive Director of NMAHPS takes lead responsibility for the development of Trust advanced practice strategy that reflects local, regional and national priorities, supported by the Deputy Director of NMAHP's.
- To develop the AP long term strategy in partnership with stakeholders, as part of the Clinical Services Strategy core group.
- To take overall lead responsibility in providing leadership and governance to the AP teams across the Trust.
- To develop an AP clinical governance structure across the trust ensuring that learning and quality improvement are embedded.
- To facilitate the operationalisation of WYAAT framework and standardisation of AP and advanced roles across the Trust determining a trust training pathway for advanced practice in conjunction with directorates and local HEIs.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with local HEI providers whilst considering the financial implications and alternative methods of learning.
- Establish effective means of engaging and involving patients, carers and the wider public in the development and evaluation of the strategy for AP.
- Play a key role in the development of the future Clinical Services Strategy, acting as an expert resource in planning alternative non-medical roles.
- Work in partnership with the directorate triumvirate leadership teams in developing and driving AP workforce implementation and development.
