Safeguarding Strategy Nurse

Job summary

The post holder will work closely with the Safeguarding children team and others across the service in ensuring that HDFT statutory duties and safeguarding children responsibilities to safeguard children and young people are supported effectively.

To work closely with the Specialist Nurse Child Protection and gather information from clinical records to assess and analyse risk in order to share the appropriate health information at safeguarding meetings. The Nurse will signpost colleagues to other relevant Health information/professionals where appropriate.

The Strategy Nurse will provide information to partners including signposting to appropriate health providers and services.

To carry out any other duties requested by the Locality Manager who is the lead for the Safeguarding pillar.

This band 6 Strategy Nurse role incorporates direct face to face working with the child and their family. Following strategy meetings, prior to any report writing, the impact on the child is assessed by the Safeguarding Strategy Nurse. Working directly with the family a health needs assessment and home environment assessment is completed and work priorities are delegated and supervised through the Locality Manager or Specialist Nurse Child Protection.

Main duties of the job

This post reports directly to the Locality Manager for the Safeguarding Pillar.

The post will link to Local Safeguarding Children's Partnerships.

The role of the Safeguarding Children Team is to provide a safe Safeguarding Children Service for all HDFT employees this includes:

  • Advice and support of practitioners who have concern about the welfare of a child, from initial concern through the Child Protection process to legal proceedings.
  • Provision of training in line with the Intercollegiate Document: Safeguarding Children: Roles and Competencies of Health Professionals (2019).
  • Provision of reflective supervision.
  • Support and promotion of effective inter and multi-agency working.
  • Support of good organisational governance processes to provide assurance of a safe service including development of appropriate policies and procedures.
