Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to undertake a 12 month secondment to help lead a review of and design the future shape of key corporate services at HDFT. The Medical Directorate, led by our Executive Medical Director, Dr Jacqueline Andrews, oversees a number of corporate functions at HDFT namely: Medical and Dental Professional Standards and Leadership, Medical and Dental Appraisal & Revalidation, Clinical Strategy, Clinical Standards (Clinical Effectiveness) & Outcomes, Patient Consent, Medicines Management, Research & Innovation and Digital Services. As a result of increasing demands, internally and externally, we are undertaking a review of our Research and Innovation functions alongside our Clinical Effectiveness function, to ensure we are best placed to deliver our Trust and Clinical Services Strategies. This new role will oversee a comprehensive review of R&I and Clinical Effectiveness at HDFT, whilst also undertaking an options appraisal of the future management model for the Medical Directorate.

Whilst a background in research, innovation or clinical effectiveness management is desirable, we are willing to consider individuals from a wide range of backgrounds as long as you can demonstrate transferrable and highly developed general management and interpersonal skills.

Main duties of the job

The General Manager (Medical Directorate) will:

Lead on the wide scale review of our Research and Innovation function. Analysing the current provision and structures and determining the models required to ensure the department is fit for the future and meets its full potential.

Lead on the wide scale review of our Clinical Outcomes (also known as clinical effectiveness) function. Analysing the current provision and structures and determining the models required to ensure the department is fit for the future and meets its full potential.

The post holder is responsible for providing high quality, efficient and proactive project management, advice and support to ensure the Executive Medical Director and the Associate Director of Quality and Corporate Affairs are supported to carry out their roles effectively.

The postholder will closely monitor national policy developments, consider their implications for the Medical Directorate workstreams, and contribute to effective horizon scanning.

This post holder will directly line manage the Research and Innovation Manager and the Clinical Outcomes Manager to support the R&I function and the Clinical Effectiveness function.

In addition, the postholder will ensure there are efficient and robust administrative systems and processes in place to support the work of the Executive Medical Director.
