Dental Nurse Team Leader

Job summary

The post holder will provide clinical input and day to day operational management of the Dental Nurses to ensure that high quality professional support service is provided. Thepost holder must hold a recognized dental nursing qualification and be registered with the GDC. They must have an additional dental qualification (e.g. special Care dentistry, Radiology, Sedation) specific to the requirements of the service. Thepost holder will be expected to have an understanding of working with patients both children and adults including those who may have special needs or those who have difficulty accessing NHS dental treatment in their area. Organizationand delivery of clinical support services within the community dental service to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of dental care. To support the GA lead (and other CDS managers) to deliver safe effective care. Responsibilityfor ensuring a high standard of infection control is maintained within the dental clinics.

Main duties of the job

Communicate condition related information in a sensitive mannerSupport nervous patients, patients with additional needs and paediatric patientsCommunicate condition related information to staff as appropriateCommunicate complex, sensitive service related information to staff that may require tact and persuasive skillsApply knowledge of a range of dental nursing procedures, acquired through training and experience, including knowledge gained from post registration qualificationsProvide chair side clinical support to dental activityPlan and allocate daily activities for nurses within the defined clinic location(s)Arrange meetings for the service to support continued quality performanceOrganise staffing rota for a defined location(s)Organise staff training for the nurses in conjunction with the other Dental Nurse Team LeadersAssemble and use dental equipment as requiredTrain Band 4 Dental Nurses on new dental equipmentProvide pre and post-operative advice and instructions for dental proceduresEnsure Trust and Service policies are implemented (SOPs, SALUS, radiology, IPC etc)on(s)Supervise junior staff and studentsProvide training to new starters and regular training to existing members of staffWork in conjunction with the CDS management team to recruit for Band 4 Dental NursesManage sickness absence, including acting as lead contact for absence reporting for the Band
