Applicants must be HCPC registered and hold an IBMS accredited BSc degree or equivalent with at least five years post- registration experience in a UKAS accredited clinical histopathology laboratory. You will also be required to have an IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology.
This is a specialised role and will involve taking direct responsibility for all the results produced and work performed including quality control and assurance, training of Biomedical Scientists and other laboratory staff and direct technical supervision of unqualified staff.
The post holder is able to act independently and perform unsupervised, specialised procedures to diagnose and monitor disease. The post holder will be involved with direct handling of potentially high risk uncontained body tissues and fluids from patients.
The Histopathology department has plans to expand our BMS dissection team. The IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection or previous dissection experience would be an advantage but opportunities to undertake dissection training and qualifications may be available for high performing team members who consistently demonstrate the technical aptitude required.
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to perform all clinical laboratory tasks to support the specialized diagnostic service for patients in the Histopathology Department.
Perform routine diagnostic testing procedures in the laboratory on histology and non gynae cytology samples. Duties will also include:
Accurate descriptive note taking whilst assisting the pathologist at specimen dissection. Production of digital images of specimens. Processing and embedding tissue blocks. Production of high quality sections. Performance ofroutine and specialised staining techniques. Assessment ofall stained slides for quality and accuracy.

Integrated Pathology Solutions LLP is an innovative joint-venture pathology service between Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust, Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This partnership delivers a high quality pathology service through collaboration between three Trusts for the benefit of patient and service users but the successful candidate will be employed directly by the NHS as a Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust employee.
