Job summary

Applications are invited for the role of Pathology Quality Manager, based at Harrogate District Hospital. The Pathology team is well regarded having an excellent reputation with service users. The Quality Manager has overall responsibility for the development, maintenance, and ongoing function of the Pathology Quality Management System and compliance with ISO15189, ISO22870, Human Tissue Act and Blood Safety Quality Regulations 2005.

We are looking for a candidate with HCPC-registration as a Biomedical Scientist, with substantial knowledge and experience of the accreditation and regulatory requirements of a pathology service. The candidate would have a Master's level qualification, FIBMS or equivalent experience. A Quality Management qualification would be an advantage.

A key member of the senior management team and working closely with other senior leaders, the Quality Manager leads the quality and governance agenda, working collaboratively with operational teams to deliver a high-quality and safe service.

Main duties of the job

The Pathology Quality Manager -

  • Has overall responsibility for the development & operation of the Quality Management System (primarily to ensure compliance with ISO15189, ISO22870 and Blood Safety Quality Regulations 2005) and their practical implementation within the Harrogate Pathology Department.
  • Is responsible for the development of associated policies, monitoring their effects and that of the Quality Management System on achievement of national targets by the Pathology service and the Trust.
  • Provides professional guidance and interpretation on a range of national standards and guidelines in Quality Management, to Pathology and to the Trust.
  • Provides expert advice to clinicians and senior managers in the area of Quality Management.
  • Coordinates the Pathology team of discipline specific quality leads in planning quality management system implementation, including distribution of related tasks, offering advice and guidance as required.

The successful candidate will be required to work 37.5 hours per week .

The successful candidate will also head up a small Quality team in ensuring that the service is fully compliant with all relevant accreditation and regulatory requirements. There is a need to regularly work alongside other Quality team colleagues within the wider joint venture service, with an aim to explore opportunities for shared learning and continuous quality improvement.

The Harrogate laboratory is part of a joint venture pathology service, Integrated Pathology Solutions LLP, which is an innovative arrangement between Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust, Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This partnership delivers a high-quality pathology service through collaboration for the benefit of patient and service users.

The department holds full UKAS accreditation and utilises QPULSE document management system.
