Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Hospital Infection Prevention and Control Team for a Clinical Support Worker (CSW). The Band 3 IPC CSW will undertake the role of working alongside new and existing CSW colleagues and other healthcare professionals promoting and developing IPC awareness to prevent healthcare associated infection (HCAI). The role will include delivering education to small groups of staff in wards and departments, undertaking audits and being an active member of the IPC team. The role will be carried out under the direction, but not direct supervision of the IPC Team Lead or IPC Matron.
As a Band 3 IPC CSW you will make a valuable and important contribution to the delivery of high-quality healthcare, supporting the IPC Team to prevent HCAIs.
Main duties of the job
6. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST
Education & Development
- To work alongside staff, as directed by the IPC Team Lead, in the clinical setting to provide direct work based IPC education / teaching. Ensuring patient safety remains a key focus during the delivery of the support.
- To report to the Team Lead any concerns with IPC practice observed in clinical settings.
- Provide support and advice in line with IPC Policies and guidance to clinical teams including CSW's and non-registered staff
- To support the IPC Team to deliver education on IPC training events for CSWs and IPC Champions as well as promotional national awareness campaigns e.g. World Hand Hygiene Day.
- Provide short 'tool box' talks to CSWs and other non-registered staff in wards and departments.
- To undertake IPC audits e.g. hand hygiene, Side room doors closure, stool chart completion etc. as per the IPC audit plan directed by the Team Lead.
- Ensure IPC notice boards in clinical areas are kept up to date with posters etc.

- To be an active member of the IPC Team, keeping up to date with new developments and in the sharing of good practice.
- Establish excellent working relationships with all professional groups.
- Recognise own limitation and seek guidance from the Team.
- Maintain and develop own competencies through direction of and support from the IPC Team Lead.
