An exciting opportunity has arisen for a non-medical Bowel Cancer Screening accredited endoscopist to join our friendly and enthusiastic team at Harrogate. Working within existing Bowel Cancer Screening Endoscopists, you will help to meet the growing demand for Bowel Cancer Screening within our region. HDFT is the lead provider within the Harrogate, Leeds and York screening centre.
The screening centre serves a population size of over 1,421,020, with endoscopic and radiological investigations performed at 4 hospital sites in Harrogate, Leeds and York. The successful applicant will perform both diagnostic and therapeutic screening colonoscopy at all 4 sites and will be required be flexible with travel to any other sites required within the programme.
The team of endoscopists work closely with the Programme Manager and a team specialist screening practitioners, ensuring seamless and comprehensive care is provided to screening participants and patients throughout the assessment, investigative and post procedural stages of their care.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide clinical expertise in lower gastrointestinal screening endoscopy. They will be able to diagnose significant colorectal lesions and where applicable undertake endoscopic therapeutic interventions.
The post holder will be able to work autonomously having the necessary experience, training, skills and knowledge to support and advise the wider bowel cancer screening team in the selection, assessment, management and treatment of individuals participating in the bowel cancer screening programme.
A major responsibility of the post holder will be to provide the necessary, training and teaching to support further recruitment, development, mentorship and preparation to secure expansion of both the medical and non-medical workforce to meet demand of the national bowel screening programme currently and in the future. The local service provides screening across three trusts, the post holder will provide screening colonoscopy across all accredited hospital sites (Harrogate, Leeds and York).

The Bowel Cancer Screening programme has been running for 14 years and is well established, currently serving a population of 1.4 million.
The successful candidate should excel at providing holistic patient centred care being able to work across a diverse screening population. They should display not only the technical skills needed but also outstanding endoscopic non-technical skills and be passionate about screening and the role of nurse Endoscopist. They should be able to assist in driving the service forward along with the current team as the service grows working with all members of the screening team to deliver screening across Harrogate, Leeds and York.
The ability to be flexible & organised in the workplace with a passion for delivering a quality and successful service is essential. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required to maintain and develop relationships with a wide range of internal and external contacts
The post holder will provide the necessary, training and teaching to support further recruitment, development, mentorship and preparation to secure expansion of both the medical and non-medical workforce to meet demand as the national bowel screening programme continues to roll out age extension to those eligible for bowel cancer screening.

Applicants for the 8b position will already have accreditation to perform screening derived colonoscopy, we are also happy to offer appointment at band 8a to JAG accredited non-medical endoscopists who meet the criteria to immediately pursue bowel cancer screening accreditation (lifetime numbers of 1000+, 150 colons in the previous 12 months, caecal intubation rate >90%, polyp detection rate >20%, evidence will be required).
A non-medical prescribing qualification is essential for the 8b post, full support will be provided for the 8a to achieve this if not already in place. Full support will also be provided in all areas of continuing professional development to meet the requirements of revalidation.
Supporting and supervising endoscopists in training (from all professional backgrounds) will be a key element of the role, a JAG recognised training qualification would again be desirable.
