Specialist in Special Care Dentistry
We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and experienced person for the post of Specialist in Special Care Dentistry. You will be working across the service, delivering care to Special care patients including provision of treatment under sedation and general anaesthesia. You will provide clinical leadership in Special Care Dentistry including the development of relevant protocols and the training and mentoring of staff.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate clinical leadership within an NHS setting. Candidates will have drive and enthusiasm for service development and improvement to include the teaching and supervision of staff.
The postholder will work across North Yorkshire & York providing clinical care, peer support and supervision. In addition, there will be an expectation that the postholder will also work closely with colleagues in the wider Community Dental Service.
Main duties of the job
- Provision of adult special care dentistry at level 2 and 3a within the Community Dental service, working at Community clinics and acute hospitals in Scarborough, York, Malton and Harrogate.
- Delivery of dental care under conscious sedation and general anaesthesia
- Providing clinical leadership in Special Care Dentistry
- Development of innovative new pathways to enhance access for patients groups who fall within the remit of Special Care Dentistry
- Actively participating in the overall service management team at both departmental and Directorate level.
- Taking an active role in the development of Special Care Dentistry at a regional level through involvement with the relevant Managed Clinical Network
- Teaching and training of dental officers and trainees, which will include Dental Core Trainees and Specialist Trainees
- Responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing education.

The Trust has an excellent Postgraduate Medical Centre which carries a full programme of events including and offers access to a Medical Library and a Clinical Skills Lab with high fidelity simulation facilities. The post is non-training; however, opportunities for development will be available.
