Bank Speech and Language Therapist (ALD)

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a bank band 7 speech and language therapist to work in our Adult Learning Disabilities (ALD) team based in North Yorkshire. This is a community role and involves working in a close multidisciplinary team with psychology, psychiatry, physio, nursing, admin and occupational therapy colleagues and offer a wide range of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary working.

This post will be based in the beautiful city of York covering the areas of York and Selby. You will join the small SLT team of 3 SLTs. York is a lovely place to work with great train links.

This role involves managing a caseload of clients with both communication and/or swallowing difficulties at a highly specialist level, but there may also be opportunities to work in specialist areas such as dementia, signing, paediatric to adult transition and audiology. Experience of working with clients using AAC, supported communication, intensive interaction and Talking Mats is highly beneficial.

There will be opportunities to provide training to internal and external teams, both client specific and more generally.

Leadership skills in this role would be valuable as there is an SLTA in the team who can support both clinically and with developing resources.There is regular supervision available and monthly ALD operational/clinical team meetings.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder independently provides a highly specialist clinical service to Adults who have a Learning disability who have Speech, Language and Dysphagia Disorders
  • To work as part of the Multi-disciplinary Learning Disability Service
  • To provide training, direct and indirect / support to other professionals relating to communication and swallowing disorders
  • To design therapy programmes and provide clinical support to the Speech and Language Therapy Support Workers as required
  • To assess, diagnose, develop, implement and evaluate highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy Treatment and care programmes / plans for clients with communication, swallowing and feeding disorders
