Job summary

Registered Nurses in Outpatients play a crucial role in providing patient-centred care in a clinical setting within the hospital. They are responsible for assessing, monitoring, and coordinating the healthcare needs of individuals seeking outpatient services. This role involves collaborating with healthcare teams, managing patient appointments, administering treatments, educating patients and their families, and ensuring a safe and efficient outpatient care experience. Registered Nurses in Outpatients are essential in delivering quality care and maintaining a seamless healthcare process for patients transitioning between inpatient and outpatient settings. The role requires excellent team working skills and the desire to improve processes and patient pathways with the aim of increasing efficiency and maximising patient satisfaction. The post holder will also have an active role in the Denosumab and Inclisiran injections service which includes patient advice and counselling.

Main duties of the job

Work as a member of the Elmwood Outpatients team and to provide specialised nursing care for patients throughout the various areas. This requires:

  1. Detailed knowledge of equipment and specialised information on procedures undertaken.
  2. In consultation with senior staff, the assessment, implementation and setting of standards of care.
  3. Maintain high standards of communication in all formats including verbal written and electronic.
  4. To be involved in the breaking of bad news as agreed with the clinicians.
  5. Ensure that the quality of written communication and information given to patients is maintained and in accordance with quality standards.
  6. Ensuring that equipment is safe for use and maintained as per policy.
  7. Keep up to date with clinical developments and standards, i.e. NICE guidance. To include maintaining a portfolio of clinical skills and competency based assessments, underpinning theoretical knowledge as required by the NMC.
  8. Self development and participation in continuous and post basic education, as laid down by the NMC.
  9. Complies with the requirements of the Caldicott Report, the Data Protection Act, Access to Health Records Act and subsequent legislation issued in relation to preserving the confidentiality of patient identifiable data at all times.
  10. Teaching and mentorship of students and junior staff.
  11. To assist with induction training of new members of staff, meeting professional requirements by actively participating in teaching.
