We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our critical care working within the multidisciplinary team to provide specialised nursing care for critically ill patients. Our 11 bedded unit has recently undergone a £1m refurbishment creating a much improved environment for both patients & staff featuring dimmable lights, wall murals and LED celling panels showcasing blue skies, clouds and trees. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to provide professional, clinical and managerial leadership to nursing staff within Critical Care actingas a professional role model and clinical teacher.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Have responsibility for ensuring high standards of care for all patients in Critical Care.
  • Be a proficient Practitioner in Critical care, the post holder acts as a professional role model and clinical teacher.
  • Provide professional, clinical and managerial leadership to nursing staff within Critical Care.
  • Contribute to managing the nursing and material resources of Critical care in a flexible and cost effective way.
  • Take charge of the Intensive Care unit liaising closely with the critical care leadership team.
  • Support the wider organisation.

Job responsibilities

The post holder has responsibility for ensuring the assessment of care needs for all patients within the department, Support and Guide the team in Development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.

Assist in the setting and maintaining of the highest standards of care & undertaking and supervise others in developing an expanded scope of practice appropriate to Critical care.

Contribute to the professional leadership of the Critical Care Nursing Team.

Assist in the deployment and supervision of staff (including Bank and Agency staff) over a twenty four hour period across Critical Care and the wider organisation.

Contribute to managing the nursing and material resources of the critical care unit within the pay and non-pay budgets.

Promote a safe environment by working within Trust policies, particularly in relation to Fire Safety, Health and safety, security, infection control, and moving and Handling.

Support the development of an effective Regional Critical Care Network.

Assist in the Development and use of tools to Audit standards of care in critical care.

Promote and maintain good relationships with key specialists associated with critical care.

Undertake and provide support through the appraisal process.

Assist with the recruitment and selection of staff.

Participate in continuing professional education.

Ensure awareness of current developments in nursing education.

Participate in informal and formal education programmes for Critical Care and Trust staff.

Encourage staff to underpin their practice with a research/ evidence base.

Assist staff in professional development and continuing education.

Maximise the potential of Critical Care as a learning environment for all Trust staff and student nurses.

Assist and promote the training of staff in the use of medical devices used throughout the trust.
