Job summary
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced Accredited Clinical Coder to support the clinical coding management team at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust.
You will assist with the day to day supervision of the clinical coding team, supporting the team to provide an efficient and responsive clinical coding service that achieves performance objectives within agreed timescales. You will be working in a busy and fast paced environment giving operational support to the Clinical Coding Manager and the Clinical Coding Data Quality Lead, deputising for them as required.
You will also be involved in and contribute to a robust data quality and audit programme, working alongside the Clinical Coding Data Quality Lead to hold regular activity validation meetings with clinicians, education sessions for junior clinicians on the importance of clinical noting and working with operational service teams.
You will be a committed team player, with excellent communication and leadership skills. You will have an extensive knowledge of ICD-10 and OPCS-4 national standards, with the ability to relay these highly complex rules to a variety of people. You will have a strong aptitude for the mentoring and development of more junior colleagues, as well as the ability to develop effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels within and outside the organisation.
Main duties of the job
- Provide management support to the Clinical Coding Services Manager and Clinical Coding Data Quality Lead, ensuring an efficient and effective use of resources to achieve clinical coding targets.
- Support the development and delivery of a Trust wide Clinical Coding Audit and Data Quality Programme across all specialties.
- Provide coaching, mentoring and advice for less experienced staff on coding issues, and assist with the production and delivery of an annual departmental training programme.
- Analyse and extract diagnostic and procedural information from patient health records, and assign the appropriate code, while adhering to national standards.
- Communicate effectively and agree solutions with clinicians, nursing staff and other professionals, both internal and external, concerning routine and complex coding issues.
