York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Consultant Paediatrician - Epilepsy

The closing date is 04 May 2026

Job summary

We are looking for a keen and motivated Consultant Paediatrician with a specialist interest in epilepsy to join our dynamic team at Scarborough and York hospitals. We would consider interest from both general and community paediatricians and those interested in neurology and neurodisability.

Working cross site between Scarborough and York hospitals, the epilepsy role attracts a 6PA job plan including 1.25 SPA , if the successful candidate wishes to include acute Paediatrics within their job plan this will be based at Scarborough Hospital and the job plan will increase to 8 PAs.

Our team provides both epilepsy specialist nurses and clinical psychology support for Children and Young people. The epilepsy service is a well led and dynamic team, leading on Paediatric Epilepsy across Humber and North Yorkshire ICB. Our recent successful bid from NHSe is supporting a mental health pilot which is currently ongoing and proving to be very successful. Our post holder will have opportunities to be involved in these regional activities, to expand their personal interests, and take part in ongoing service and clinical audits. The team are involved in QI projects supported by the RCPCH and invested in the Epilepsy 12 national audit. The service is supported by tertiary neurology teams in Leeds and Sheffield with whom there are strong links.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will undertake paediatric epilepsy clinics within the children's outpatients department at Scarborough and York hospitals. There may be opportunities to undertake clinics in other locations, such as York, Selby, Malton and Bridlington or special schools within the area. There will be opportunities for the successful applicant to develop any areas of special interest within the field. Depending on the training and expertise of the successful candidate acute /community work can be accommodated including on call work.

York has an integrated model of paediatric service delivery - this means that all consultants, both acute and community, work closely together and meet at least weekly for clinical discussions and support. It has the benefit of allowing those with differing clinical interests and skills to gain knowledge and advice from others in an informal atmosphere - hence improving communication and benefitting patient care.

There is a strong record of education, training and research interest in the department and there are opportunities to develop these interests. The directorate has close links with Hull York Medical School offering interested candidates opportunities for undergraduate teaching or course management roles within the medical school.
