Breast Consultant Radiographer

The closing date is 27 April 2026

Job summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Consultant Breast Radiographer to join our dedicated team and help us continue to deliver--and further develop--our successful breast imaging service. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a high-performing unit that consistently meets all NHSBSP performance standards.

About the Service

The York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Breast Imaging Unit is based in a modern, purpose-built facility in York that brings Imaging, Outpatient Services and the Multi-Disciplinary Team together under one roof. We deliver the North Yorkshire Breast Screening Programme for the wider region and provide a comprehensive Symptomatic Breast Service, including one-stop assessment and follow-up clinics. Our service incorporates contrast enhanced mammography within both our one-stop and assessment pathways, and we maintain strong, integrated working relationships with colleagues in Surgery, Pathology, Oncology and Breast Care Nursing.

Main duties of the job

As a Consultant Breast Radiographer, you will work closely with Consultant Radiologists and Consultant Radiographer colleagues across screening and symptomatic services across our Trust. You will be an autonomous practitioner and critical thinker, demonstrating expert practice and high-level clinical decision-making across the four pillars of advanced practice. As a senior team member, you will deliver safe, specialist imaging and intervention, contribute to service development, and provide innovative leadership to meet evolving needs. You will support, mentor, and help train the breast imaging workforce, represent the service at MDT meetings, participate in PERFORMS, lead audit and research activity, and develop clinical practice in line with national guidance.

You must be experienced in the full range of breast radiological duties, including screen reading, symptomatic reporting, breast and axillary ultrasound, 14G and VAB biopsies (ultrasound and stereotactic), and pre-operative localisation. Essential qualifications include a relevant Master's degree, postgraduate credentials in mammography, film reading, breast ultrasound, stereotactic and ultrasound biopsy, and image-guided localisation. Strong communication skills, accuracy under pressure, teamwork, and commitment to high-quality patient care are required.

Please note: this is a single-sex NHS Breast Screening Programme role, requiring a female post holder under the Equality Act 2010.
