Job summary
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person, to join our Laboratory Administration Team at York Hospital as an Administrator. The successful candidate will be joining the team responsible for the administration processes to support the Cellular Pathology department.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure, to prioritise the demands of a busy office, and manage their time and workload effectively. Although your work will be guided you must be able to work unsupervised, using your own initiative.
Recent secretarial/administrative experience of more than two years is preferably within the NHS. A minimum of Grade 4 or equivalent in GCSE Maths and English is essential. The post holder will be required to be computer literate with experience using Outlook, Word and Excel.
Successful candidates will be expected to work during core office hours Monday to Friday 08:30 to 16:30.
Shortlisted candidates are encouraged to visit the department for an informal visit.
Main duties of the job
- Provide administrative support to the department of Cellular Pathology
- Printing, sorting and mailing patient reports.
- Filing and archiving blocks and slides
- Handling telephone and email enquiries from service users including clinicians and other staff in a clear and effective manner.
- Support with the coordination and managing of histopathology cases for Multidisciplinary Team Meetings (MDT).
- Sort, package, complete associated paperwork and record material which is intended for dispatching to other off-site laboratories for the purpose of consultation, patient referral, tests not performed on site, external reporting suppliers and clinical trials.
- Inputting and retrieving patient and specimen details into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in an accurate and timely manner.
- Uploading of documentation to the Quality Management System
- Ensure that both Trust and local Policies and Procedures are followed as necessary to own work and may be required to comment/provide input to, the development of work processes relative to own area of activity.
