Job summary
We are seeking an outstanding, compassionate, and forward-thinking General Manager for Obstetrics & Gynaecology (O&G) to join the Family Health Care Group leadership team. This is a pivotal senior operational role responsible for delivering safe, effective, and high-quality services across York and Scarborough sites.
This opportunity arises at a key point in our Care Group reconfiguration, service recovery programmes, and continued focus on workforce, safety, and operational excellence. The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping and strengthening the future of O&G services across the Trust
You will be an experienced NHS operational leader with a proven track record of delivering complex clinical services. You should bring:
- Strong experience in operational management, preferably in acute women's health or similar high-intensity services.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, able to work across multi-professional teams and sites.
- Experience of service improvement, workforce planning, governance, and financial management.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and lead teams through operational challenges.
- A compassionate leadership style aligned to our Trust values and ambitions.
Main duties of the job
The General Manager will work closely with the Clinical Director, Deputy Director of Midwifery, Head of AHP and senior Gynaecology nursing team to provide strategic and operational leadership across Obstetrics & Gynaecology services.
Operational & Service LeadershipDeliver day-to-day O&G operations, ensuring safe, high-quality care and strong patient experience. Oversee rota resilience, medical workforce planning, escalation and service continuity. Manage elective and emergency flow across GAU, antenatal, gynaecology outpatient and inpatient areas.
Performance, Quality & GovernanceAchieve key performance standards, including RTT and cancer pathways. Lead governance, incidents, escalation and safety responses. Drive improvements in documentation, digital processes and audit.
Strategic & Financial ManagementSupport service development, business cases, capital planning and workforce investment. Maintain strong financial control, deliver CIP, and optimise capacity and resources. Work with finance, workforce and estates to develop sustainable service models.
Leadership & People ManagementProvide visible leadership to operational, nursing, clinical and administrative teams. Support talent development, coach emerging leaders and promote an inclusive, psychologically safe culture. Contribute actively to the Care Group senior leadership team and cross-directorate priorities.
