Medical Secretary - Trauma & Orthopaedics

Job summary

We are seeking an efficient and reliable Medical Secretary to join our friendly team in Trauma and Orthopaedics. We have a full time position available (37.5 hours per week) based at York Hospital.

The post holder will provide a full and comprehensive secretarial service to the Trauma & Orthopaedic Consultant team. Excellent audio typing and communication skills are essential for this post.

The post holder where applicable will provide day-to-day work supervision of Assistant Medical Secretaries, Relief Medical Secretaries and administrative staff within their designated team.

Main duties of the job

The Medical Secretary works as part of the administration team supporting the Trauma & Orthopaedic Department based at York Hospital.

Responsibilities include secretarial support to Consultants, copy and audio typing, liaising with other staff and clinical teams, advising and supporting administrators, RTT monitoring and responding to patient queries.

The post holder will work as part of a team taking a lead role in providing a full and comprehensive PA and secretarial service to designated Consultants and their teams.

  • Typing skills - OCR III (or equivalent e.g. RSA III )
  • Evidence of continued professional development

Desirable

  • ECDL
  • Qualification or appropriate training in Customer Service
  • AMSPAR

Knowledge

  • In depth knowledge of office applications and procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years secretarial/administrative experience
