Job summary
A Specialty Doctor in the NHSprovides specialised medical care, working as part of a team under the supervision of consultants, and often taking on responsibilities related to patient care, teaching, and clinical governance.They will typically have at least four years of postgraduate training, with at least two in their chosen specialty.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will initially be based at Scarborough and join the General Surgery team consisting of 23 consultants and 4 Associate Specialist working across the Trust sites. We perform a full range of upper and lower GI surgery including, but not limited to, laparoscopic and robotic colorectal cancer surgery, TAMIS, complex abdominal wall surgery, pelvic floor surgery, pelvic endometriosis surgery, advanced proctology, advanced colonoscopy, IBD surgery, ano-rectal physiology,laparoscopic bariatric surgery, laparoscopic anti reflux surgery, laparoscopic hernia surgery, open , robotic and laparoscopic complex abdominal wall reconstruction surgery, laparoscopic biliary surgery (including lap US and lap CBD exploration), minimally invasive pancreatic surgery and upper GI physiology. Elective day surgery services are provided on both our main sites. Robotic surgery is carried out at York, however major acute and elective cases are performed at across both sites. To gain experience in the department we can offer the opportunity cross site.
In addition, unselected emergency general surgery on call admissions are cared for on both sites. A separate vascular surgery on call rota is provided, based on the York site.
The role available is initially based at Scarborough, however there will be opportunities to work on the York site. Decision to move is based on development of clinical skills, training needs and required evidence for the Portfolio Pathway application.
